luna, you didn't install any GW related 3rd party programs, by any chance, did you?

If yes, then that program may have contained a trojan, stole your account details and used your account to advertise for a website where you can download that very program.

In any case, advertising for GuildWiki can't be the reason for a ban. GWiki has official "specialty" fansite status.

you probably went to www.disney.com, and tried to get a hack or one of their guides or w/e. when the thing gets on your computer, it seems like nothing has happened. then, it has a delay, and hacks guild wars. it probably did all the hacking when you were asleep. they steal all your items, and turn on a bot that says thegwplace.com the number 1 place for hacks or something like that. so, get your computer reformatted, because there is probably a keylogger on there (that is if you did what i think you did). send them an email, and go through the necessary steps to verify that it is your account and not the people that hacked it. if/when you get it back, you're not going to have much gold left, if you had any to start out with.

Mod Edit: Please don't post URL's of "suspected hack sites" or such. Thank you

when my main account got banned it said in the email "we will not accept petitions for the reclamation of this account, as the matter has been well-researched and documented"
it turns out that this "well researched doctumentation" was a doctored screenshot sent into anet by someone who had actually scammed me for the items he was claiming that i had offered to sell for cash. lol.
never again will i trust anet when they ban someone and say they have done their research.
it took a 4 hour phonecall, including getting richard garriot (sp) on the line to get me unbanned. they told me the screenshot had been sent to them, but they could not find the chat logs; but when they logged onto my account and saw the items i had, they assumed i was holding them to be sold on ebay.
in fact, they constituted my own private collection.
so, because a doctored screenshot had been sent in, and because i'm a fairly "well-off" player, i got banned without a good reason.
all i can say is if this is the kind of quality work anet does when checking into things, thank god anet isnt being put in charge of cancer research.

contact support first to see if they can give you more details about the ban. Than reformat your computer just in case there is a virus or bug that is taking information from your computer. Next, you need to wait and see how A-Net support will response to your claim. The worst case is that A-Net won't unbanned and you're force to either buy new copy of GW or keep bugging support.

Personally, I have never been banned, even though I do have a sizable collection. But I don't have a 55-monk, either

"you probably went to www.disney.com"

Someone left this in a thread, I haven't heard of the place so i went and checked the site out. It's clearly a scam site and I almost brushed it off as a definite no. I asked my brother if he ever heard of it since he has 1 characetr on my account. Seems he made a new characetr 3 days ago and overheard an invincibility hack advertised on GW on that website. he downloaded it but didn;'t mention it cuz he says it didn't work it was "fake". I almost had a heartattack. I couldn't find any leftovers of it because I had reinstalled the whole dam PC due to the errors and weird activity that started to happen >
WTH!!! Unbelievable. I emailed ANet again w/ the additional info. But it's still freaking me out I can't find the hack on my PC but what if it's still there??
Did it erase after I rebooted and reinstalled everything??
Makes me angry that 1 stupid mistake on a 12 year olds part ruined all those months of effort. PPl on GW are always bragging about hacks etc...but you brush it aside as just ppl being stupid. Well different when a 12 year old hears it then stumbles upon a website ad for them. God I hate the internet!!!As angry as I am at my brother it's not his fault he's justa kid.
I'm probably not getting my account back and if it's true what happens after your account gets stolen i may as well buy another copy. Looks like i'll be getting it back w/ 0 anything to it's name if it gets unbanned. >
GODDAM HACKS!!

Actually, I'd give your brother a damn good lecture about internet responsibility. If he's old enough to play a game with adults and purport himself within a community, he should be old enough to know better. Or at least learn from such a monumentous mistake as this.

These are lessons that have been trumpted over and over:
- Don't share accounts
- There are no hacks or dupes in GW. Everything is a scam
- Don't use third party downloadables.

usually, those hack would be remove if you do a reformat if you dont know how to remove a spyware or anyhting a like in your system. They probably install a keylogger on your computer.

If you reformat the whole computer, it should be fine. Anyway, this is a good lecture for you and YOUR brother that:

Dont trust anyone from the internet unless you know him in real life and you think him/her is trustworthy.
Don't turst anything that your trustworthy friend heard from the internet.
Play the game as intended, exploitation and hacking alone can get you ban.

As a general rule of thumb, Don't click on any links that looks dodgy. And the best is to check the 'real' link at the bottom of your browser, some hacker will hide a dodgy link under a real link to scam people.
Don't click yes on anything that pop-ups.

If you dont know how to remove a spyware, ask for help from a technician.

if you know anyone in your guild or who are friend with you. Have them monitor your character name to see if it popup. Just in case the hacker got hold of your account again.

Glad there's been some movement Luna.

I suggest investing in good virus and spyware tracking for your computer.

Hell Yeah! SCSA!

As a rule everyone should know... never ever download anything from online sites. You don't know what is in those files you downloading. Not to mention there is no such things as hacks or cheats for MMORPG!

it deosnt matter how many times you scanned the computer for virus or spyware from the same piece of software, you should use at least 2 anti-virus or spyware software for searching.

And becareful, they might have false positive and you might remove some important files.

you mention you 'rebooted' the computer and reinstall everything, im not sure what reboot you mean, if reboot means turn of the computer and start it again, it would do nothing to clean the keylogger. If you mean reformat, then it should be okay.

Please DO NOT ever install 2 virus scanners onto you computer. Number of reasons for it, but yeah, just don't do it. Also dun use major corp stuff mcafee or norton antivirus. A lot of the free ones take less resources and do the work just fine. Google is your fren.

We don't want peeps to start posting on the technical support forum saying "my computer runs like a dog [maybe it's cos i have 2 virus scanners, 2 pop-up blockers, 2 firewalls, 2 spyware blockers, etc, etc running on the one system]" Mmmm, less is better, unless you have some really cool top secret stuff on there that hackers would want to use for espionage. If this is the case, please let me know and let me test your security.

Well 2 antivirus scanner is actually helpfull since no scanner has a 100% detection rate. However when you do use 2 scanners you run only 1 scanner as background scan. With the other scanner you use it offline meaning you manual scan the files you have downloaded. But i do agree to use only 1 good firewall. More then 2 just causes more problems and conflicts.

I use http://www.clamwin.com/ for my offline scanner and symantec antivirus corp. edition for background checks. Suspicious files i scan manual with both of them.

QFT, 2 scanners but 1 actively doing the background scan. And i didnt mention 2 Firewall, i said 2 different virus scan and spyware search.

And 2g_2g, Nothing is 100% safe but installing 2 virus scanner is safer and recommended by technician. Because no Anti Virus nowaday can cover 100% of the virus, even with 2, the coverage is not 100%. Also, it doesnt matter if your computer held any cool top secret information or not. Most hacker dont go for specific top secret target, they go for the little careless sheep.
